Kids out of class
By Laurie May

Clip to ScrapBook
I know this is maddening. It's a waste of time and it makes you feel like you have no control. What about an incentive to get the kids into the class and at their desks?? A trivia question or joke of the day ( to be revealed
when everyone is sitting)...or a mystery in a box...which could be a lead-in to one of your lessons..Science experiment materials--something from nature (beaver skull)---a great read aloud book, C.D. video, -----a snack---The contents of the box can not be revealed until everyone is in the class and at their desks. Your curious motivated students will apply peer pressure to your
slower students to hurry up. Students could even take turns getting to be the "box filler" by bringing something exciting from home.

An extreme measure for your main offenders is that they lose locker priveledges completely. They will be given a box inside the class to keep their belongings in and they have to earn their locker back.....by proving that they can get themselves organized and ready on time.
