Poetry Ideas
By Lori @

Clip to ScrapBook
I found one of those magnetic poetry kits for kids where they take words printed on magnets and used a magnet board to experiment with the words. When they get something they like they write in in their poetry notebooks
-- they can use the word processor to type it if they would rather. Then they illustrate.

A great book to use with a poetry unit for mid elementary and up is Love That Dog by Sharon Creech. I am trying to come up with some ideas for a center around this book. I haven't come up with anything really good yet, maybe I'll have a brainstorm soon.

I also like the book Hailstones and Halibut

Bones -- I read one of the poems on a color. Then I have colored card stock in a center. The students take a colored piece of paper and write a poem about that color. They then mount their handwritten poem (I have small sheets of lined paper that will fit in the center of the paper in the center) or they may enter their poem into the computer and print it on the colored card stock.

You didn't mention grade level so I don't know if these will help you any at all. Good luck.

Lori
