I understand your frustration but what can you do to turn this bitter situation sweet? Is there a team of ninth grade teachers or even students that share this attitude? Perhaps you can brainstorm solutions. Perhaps if some kids are late for class because they have PE at the opposite end of the building you can lighten up on them for being late. What Cathy-Dee said may be a good solution if you cannot change the situation you can change your grade level.
