Clip to ScrapBook
Our morning is a little structured due to SAGE (student achievement guaranteed in education) We try to have groups of 15 or less in language arts and math. I do believe that we (the very part-time SAGE teacher) and I teach
in a playful manner. There definitely are expectations for children to pass a performance task (where they sequence four pictures, write a story using sound spelling, and read it back to the teacher while pointing to words.) I do a lot of modeling, reading and talking about print. I have never done a letter a day or used worksheets to teach letters. Everyday they get at least 1 1/2
hours of play. More in the beginning of the school year. OH, we have all day kindergarten. I fought hard for our district to leave kindergarten alone, but third grade testing has made it's mark.
