I'd bring in a rock, flower, and an animal/insect. Ask the children how these objects are different? Are any alike? Facilitate the discussion. The children will should be able to come up with things like, a flower and animals grows, eats, etc. They will be able to come to the conclusion of what is the differences between living and nonliving things are.
