I have to comment on the professionalism of the first grade teacher. Why did she even tell you this? She should have kept her mouth shut and you wouldn't feel so uncomfortable.

I doubt that there is anything anyone
could do to change this woman's mind. Distircts should stick to their cut off date no matter what. I definitely agree with that.

Sometimes, I think parents are just idiots, and sometimes they are pressured by society to have their children in school. With all of the talk of universal preschools, mandatory preschool, etc. it totally devalues motherhood. Society is communicating to

parents that they are not good enough teachers, that they must be enrolled in some type of preschool program to be ready for school.

One other thought, since this parent has never taken issue with you. Perhaps, in her own way, she is preparing the first grade teacher for the challenges she'll face with her daughter. Maybe she knows this wasn't the best placement for her child, but cannot admit that. She's taking it out on you, never expecting that it would be communicated back to you.
