Thank you to everyone who has responded. As for the job idea, it hasn't worked all year. He was the board washer and eraser, and he threw the sponges and erasers at people. He was the messenger, and would not return when
sent to deliver something. (very scary) He has thrown, hit, ruined, etc. everything I have asked him to be in charge of. And trust me, having a job in my class is a very desirable opportunity.

This young child's parents are going through a divorce, he has decided he HATES mom (lives with dad), his step-sister constantly fights with him, Grandma does his homework for him, and dad says

that there is nothing he can do. However, the parents have a note in his file that he is to receive absolutely no social or academic help. So, he can't meet with the psychologist or the social worker, or get any academic help from my aide. I have explained to the parents that he needs this help, but they are totally against it. All they do is make excuses.

I am at my wit's end with him. Every once in awhile, I get to see the sweet, smart child that is inside this angry kid. However, it is very rare. I refuse to give up on him, although I get no support from anyone. Any more ideas?

Thank you for all your help. I want to do more than just "get through" the last few weeks.
