Easier Said Than Done
By Teri

Clip to ScrapBook
I just gave the last of two sets of tests given to 3rd graders. You're absolutely right. The kids are already starting to get ready for summer.

One of the other teachers had a little "treat" on their desk each morning
with a message. For example, they each had a blowpop with a message about "Blowing through the test". This lightened up the stress level of the kids. I can't remember the other sayings, but I know she used pencils (something about being sharp), Nerd candy, and Airhead candy.

After the first test, I gave incentives (pencil top eraser) to the kids who I felt really did their personal

best. I made a big production out of it. This is especially meaningful to the kiddos because I don't give treats very often.

As for me, I tried to "let it go". Kids will be kids and they can tell if you're stressed about it. I agree there seems to be too much riding on one test. If you're enjoyed your first year and you're this concerned about the test, then you and your students will be fantastic. Good luck!
