Try ignoring the behaviour and praising up the child directly beside him for the correct behaviour. It is really hard going ignoring the behaviour. It often gets worse as the child is trying harder and harder to get your attention. I had a 6 year old like that. In the end I made sure I was firm and consistent. There is a saying that I try to teach by. Be Consistent, Insistent and Persistent. I also agree with Laura in that you could try and find out why. However sometimes, some situations that could arise from home, you can't have any real control over, so you just have to make it manageable for you.
