I agree with what has been said about the amount of homework given. I teach 4th grade and think 30 - 45 minutes of homework a night is sufficient. However, I have parents who feel that their child should receive more homework.
I think parents have the wrong impression of the purpose of homework. I know as a parent, I am happy that my child's teacher does not give tons of homework nightly.

There was a 3rd grade teacher who would give homework that would take the chidren at least 3 hrs. to complete. This is ridiculous. When the next year came and I had her students for the 4th grade, they were relieved

I did not give so much homework. They actually said that sometimes they received up to 11 assignments. Thank goodness, she is in another position now.
