4th Graders Love Trade Books!
By Michele

Clip to ScrapBook
I've shared books by Roald Dahl with my class and they love them! The first book I read was The Twits and it was really appealin to my reluctant readers. Then we read the BFG by Roald Dahl. He has a nice range of books for students reading from upper 2nd to 6th grade level. You might want to try reading some of his books this summer and planning an author study unit on him.

For read alouds, my students have enjoyed Skinnybones by Barbara Park, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume; Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis; and Sammy Keyes and the Hotel Thief by Wendelin Van Draanen. Also try looking on the Carol Hurst website for excellent ideas with using trade books in the classroom. Hope this helps :0}
