Clip to ScrapBook
"Angel Child, Dragon Child" ( don't have author) is an excellent picture book that would be sophisticated enough for your class. It describes the transition of a young girl's transition from Vietnam to America, and her struggle during the first year of schoool. Her mother has not arrived yet, and she must learn to cope with her emotions, while holding onto the honor of her family. She is teased by other children, but gradually makes friends. The author demonstrates authenticity and sensitivity ( it makes me cry each time). It is a beautiful story.
