Some thoughts regarding your questions... The fee will really depend upon what the going rate is in your area, contact a few teachers and see what they'd charge. My 16 year old son tutored and made $10.00
On lessons, try contacting the child's teacher prior to year end and get his/her feedback on the child's progress and next learning steps. See if you can get a copy of the adopted materials. There are pre and post tests in usually every curriculum, try those. Absolutely check with your State Dept of Ed, as well as the district for any standards you should be addressing. Go to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics website for possibilities (www.nctm.org) for assessment / evaluation / planning / teaching. You won't know what lessons to plan til you've assessed and evaluated. Also, this would be a great opportunity to try out some of the neat ideas you've been reading about in college. Since you're the child's tutor and under a contract with the parent, you should find out everything you can about his/her academic successes/difficulties. Just remember you're getting it from one perspective (as with the child's teacher). One of the frustrations of working with an older grade child who's struggling is trying to 'undo' some of the habits that cause the child to be unsuccessful. This takes more time the higher you go in GLs. If you want specific recommendations for professional materials, just post or email. Hope this helps! Best of luck, you'll be great!! ;-D
