We read Because of Winn Dixie earlier this year. I cannot find another book that comes even close to this one. The children cherished this book. It is a precious story about a little girl who lives with her father. She meets all kinds of new friends because of a dog she finds in Winn Dixie. She names this dog Winn Dixie. It really allows the children to express themselves and identify with Opal, the main character. The children fall inlove with every character. We also read Stuart Little, Helen Keller, and Muggie Maggie. Next year I am going to purchase The Secret Garden. Hope this helps.
