What a great thread!

When I have extra class time, I like to play 'Around the world.' Two students come up to the board. I ask a spelling or math question, and the first person to answer it stays at the board. The goal is for someone to stay at the board, and succeed at answering the questions before each classmate that he faces ( hence going around the class or world. The students love playing this game, and it is academically focused. This game requires no preparation on the sub's part, and it is very easy with one look around the classroom to tailor it to the class's current area of studies.
