Actually some of the viruses that were mentioned on this post can come through a variety of means. Some are simply random, sent through servers to any address that has been set up by whoever is sending out the virus. For example, everyone in my school district may get an email with a virus because someone sent a root email to our system.

A word of advice - if you do not have a virus protection program on your computer - get one today! I personally recommend Norton as I like it's user friendly set-up.

Also if you ever sign up for newsletters, email lists, etc., you may inadvertently get signed up for other lists and your email can get out through that as well.

The webmaster one that someone else mentioned is a mass mailing type that most likely wouldn't have come through this site because you left your email address. That one is irritating.
