    Kindergarten Round up

Holy guacamole Batman! 8-2 is a L-O-N-G time to have those newbies! When we do Kindergarten Round up, I first do a presentation to the parents and the new Kindergartners-to-be in the cafeteria. Then I take the children to the classroom while the parents listen to other speakers, (county health nurse, etc.) In the classroom, I always start out with some guidelines/rules, just as I would for my regular K's such as bathroom rules, no leaving the classroom, and so forth. Then I do some songs and fingerplays everyone will know, (such as Mary had a little lamb, 5 monkeys jumping on the bed). Afterwards, I tell them "See you're so smart, Kindergarten will be easy for you!" I then do a book such as "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" Again ,it's one most are familiar with to make them feel comfortable and less anxious about Kdg. I also am looking to see who can attend to the story, and who knows colors, etc.
I also do a simple art project with them, such as a bear or butterfly. This tells me who can print their name and who can cut. We then have a playtime. You would also have time for a snack..perhaps one they could make themselves.

    Hope these ideas help!
