frog ideas
By Alice

Clip to ScrapBook
Wow, are you in luck! My school is just finishing up the year with a school-wide theme of "Leap into Learning" using frogs. We each had to use this caption and design a bulletin board for the hallway at the beginning of the
year. Many of us have left our "theme bulletin board" up for the entire year changing it with the seasons. I made a pond with cute, happy frogs (enlarged stickers on an opaque projector) leaping around lily pads. On the lily pads, I wrote one of each of the eight multiple intelligences. I went to the craft store and bought silk plants and cat tails to give the board a 3-D look. Throughout
the year, I have taken photos of my students engaging in the Multiple Intelligences and have placed them around the the pond. Other teachers took pictures of their students on the first day of school and placed them on frogs leaping to lily pads with the students' names on them. In addition, I also made a bulletin board with the characters Frog and Toad. We wrote letters to Frog and Toad, based upon on of the books, and these friendly letters were also displayed with the characters. (Very cute!) In my classroom, I made my reading area/library into a pond. I purchased a blue area rug for the water, a green bean bag chair (for the lily pad), and cat tails in a bucket for the vegetation. I displayed frog books-both fiction and nonfiction in this area. My second graders love reading here! Above my chalkboard, I made the caption, "Toad-ally Awesome Second Graders" and die-cut frogs leaping on both sides. On my classroom door, I made a frog leaping from a lily pad that said, "Learning makes me hoppy." There are so many frog items out there to decorate your room. I found nametags, calendar items, stickers, etc. at the teacher supply store. All in all, you will have so much fun with this theme! Good luck!
