You're Gonna Love It!
By Joy

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Emmy,

I completely understand how you are feeling right now! During my first couple years of teaching I switched grade levels several times. Each year, I became comfortable with the new level. I kept thinking about how
much fun my second year would be when I knew the curriculum and I had files to refer to. Then I would be moved to a new level.

I have been teaching third grade for 5 years now. It's a lot of fun!!! I know that someday I will be deeply saddened when my administrator tells me that I am switching levels again.

You will really enjoy the third grade. The best part of moving to the next

level is that most of your second grade materials can be used in the third grade (especially at the beginning of the year). You won't be completely reinventing the wheel. If you teach at a larger school, you may only have a few of your second graders in your third grade class.

Here are some reasons to love teaching third grade:

1. Children are more independent. They are anxious to learn new things.
2. There are some great chapter books and picture books that can be shared with third graders.
3. The third grade curriculum is very interesting! You will find that the science and social studies concepts are very similar to those taught at the second grade level.
4. Third graders can be very imaginative and creative.
5. You can joke around with 8-9 year olds. They like to have some fun and they know a joke when they hear one!
6. They still enjoy fun projects and activities.
7. You will be amazed to see how they grow as writers. Third graders love to write stories, letters, notes, reports, etc.

If you should have any questions, don't hesitate to email me.

Good Luck!
