Spelling List
By Teri

Clip to ScrapBook
The suggested spelling that accompanies our basal is too easy so we (the three grade team) make up our own lists. We look for "themes" in their writing, phonics, etc. for words we feel they need further work. For example,
we've done contractions, kn-, wr-, homophones and compound words. The students have 15 words. On Mondays, we give a pretest and if the student gets two or less wrong, then they get the challenge list which are higher level words in the same theme.

In school, we were introduced to Rebecca Sinton. She has a program that focuses on words the students use in their daily activities.

To some extent, the words are too easy. On the other hand, the words learned are words they'll use for the rest of their lives. If you do a search on Yahoo!, you'll find information about Rebecca Sinton.

I hope this helps.
