cursive and spelling
By Jill

Clip to ScrapBook
My students write all in cursive starting after winter break. If I cannot read what a child wrote on their spelling test in cursive or if I know they know how to spell a word correctly, I will call them up and ask them to spell the word for me verbally. If they can spell it correctly, I give them full credit for the word and I show them how to write the word correctly in cursive. It seems to work for me and the parents have been extremely thankful. I don't think they should be punished for poor handwriting in spelling, but I do think they need to practice their cursive because it seems the only real time they ever practice it is in third grade.
