Clip to ScrapBook
If you do no direct instruction how do you teach letters, sounds etc..?

I do agree that skills can be intergrated into play. For example, at kitchen we have cookbooks and menus. The truck area has maps. I have clipboards
everywhere to encourage children to write and draw during playtime. But I do feel that I need to spend some time doing direct instruction. How can I expect them to try to write if they do not see me write and talk about what, why and how I am doing it? How can they use developmental spelling if we do not learn about letters and sounds?

Please do not feel that I am being critical.

I really do want to understand how you present material. Do you have a report card for kindergarten and what does it look like?

I am lucky - in my district I have the freedom of choice as to how I present materials. It is required that I do cover basic skills but I am free to do so in the manner I feel best for my students.
