Doing Okay

Many experienced teachers tell me that I have come in during a much harder time for teaching, but one thing's for sure: pay-wise, this is the best time to start teaching, at least where I live (Southern California). Most of the districts have gotten a raise recently. As a first-year teacher, I make $40,000 a year, plus a $5,000 bonus for having a credential. As a single person, I can live comfortably and save money. It isn't bad for a 10-month salary. However, I do still get caught up in figuring my hourly rate when I put in way too many hours at school.
