"Professionalism" by So True
By Just a Thought again

Clip to ScrapBook
I am not religious . . . BUT I do have faith in those "new holier-than-thou teachers." Most of them do "GROW" out of it. Hey, I grew out of it! :-) I didn't turn into one of those "older busybody teachers" - just a bitter
divorsee (I am just joking! I learned so much as 25 year old!) Yes, that 25 year old I knew was ME!

Newly grads tend to want to make few mistakes and want to appear they know everything before they are told . . . I remember not wanting anyone to find out how much I didn't know! I didn't anyone to think I wasn't capable of doing the job- those horrible insecure feelings we have!

My favorite saying is "What goes around, comes around!" Someday those "new holier-than-thou teachers" will be older and wiser and look back at their first few years of teaching like I do now and think, "Jeee, what an idiot I was!" I've forgiven myself for some of the stupid things I thought and shared about others. I went through a time I was ashamed of myself for my behavior, which at the time, I considered being soooooooo "professional."

As a new grad, I remember thinking, "hey, I have my B.S. degree from a university!!!!" This halo of pride in myself was shinning very brightly and I side blinded many wonderful experienced co-workers with that halo. Those co-workers have forgiven me since those first few years of teaching and they laugh about how I use to be . . . they do laugh louder than I do . . when telling stories I'd rather they'd forget! See, I'm still ashamed of some of those years. Those years were 18 years ago. See "What goes around, does comes back around!" Even after 18 years!

Now for those "older busy body teachers" - "you can't teach an old dog new tricks."
