Switching
By Julie K.

Clip to ScrapBook
It is funny. I started teaching (4th grade) with a brand new teacher. We talked about the switching thing over the summer. Then the week before school started, we asked our principal about it. We just simply said, "Could
we try it?" She was pretty positive about it from the start. I think because the 5th grade already did it helped us.
Anyway, yes, you are helping them prepare for middle school. In addition, you are using the teachers' strengths. It helps (as you probably already figured this out) with planning time. It really cuts the time down. Focus on that! "I can really dedicate more
time to one particular area this way. With the increasing demands of state standards...etc. it is more efficient for each of us to focus more attentively on one curriculum area."
I hope this helps. It is a definite plus for our school. Third, fourth, and fifth grades do it. (Fifth grade now switches...science and math for lang. and social studies!)
