Clip to ScrapBook
a-ha, just had this happen--luckily, the student was strong in language--i gave him a couple worksheets on writing with description and writing paragraphs because those are areas we had focused on and i didn't know if he'd
had it before--so he did those while we worked on our project--and i gave him grades for those. then, i had him do a shortened version of our research project--while everyone else's had an intro and concl, his just had the body. he took notes, but didn't do an outline. everyone else edited 3 times; he only edited 1 time.
decide what you really want the student to learn/show you and
just have him/her do those things.

and don't take a parent's word on a child's ability--i can't tell you how many times i've heard a parent say, "my child was a straight A student!"--yeah, right, if C's are A's! you'll know soon enough the child's true abilities.

good luck!
tia
