A Positive View
By Kim

Clip to ScrapBook
My school has been using the SFA program for 4 years, and I have taught it for 3 1/2 years. I have to say I LOVE having a full 90 minutes to devote to my 15 reading kids. I think it is more beneficial than spending 15 minutes
with 5 different reading groups in my homeroom.

I teach second grade, and I have kids reading from 1st grade on up to 4th grade reading levels. I really don't think I could handle that many levels and do justice to the kids if we didn't have SFA. Also, I have seen lots of reading growth in the kids.

Like the poster above, I have also made lots of my own changes to the schedule

and how I do things, but it took me about 2 years of teaching by the book before I could change and still keep the integrity of SFA. It is structured, but the kids seem to like it and each teacher seems to be able to add in fun stuff occasionally.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents worth.
Kim
