Centers

I love your ideas about centers, but I am a first year teacher and I have found it extremly hard to work with centers. All my students want to do is play and start picking on each other. When I am not directly working with them they get soooo loud I can't stand it. Students are not learning like this. I only have a handful of students who can work independantly. I have to stop reading groups a half-dozen times because they are out of control. Every dicipline strategy out there I have tried! Oh, and we don't have computers. Any suggestions.
