jobs By Hawaii sped teacher

To answer your question- no the regular sped teachers in Hawaii do not get anywhere near as much as the Columbus teachers do (less than half of what they make) and in some schools this causes a lot of friction. I have heard| that although they make good money that many of them are not happy with Columbus group because after being hired they no longer receive any support from the company. Why are we so desperate? Well...there are a lot of factors...we had a HUGE lawsuit against the state and the state was supposed to do certain things (like get more sped teachers) which they waited till the last minute to | | do- so there wern't any, also there really are not that many training programs here UH only puts out about 40 sped teachers a year (and we are short hundreds), they give us no respect at all, our job reponsabilities seem to grow by leaps and bounds while our paycheck shrinks, and our union will not stick up for sped teachers, overall bureaucracy doesn't help, and also many teaching jobs in the mainland are much better than here.HOWEVER- if you do want to come to Hawaii and teach I would definatly go with the Columbus group and not apply through the state. I think the state will only give you about $50 for moving expences and there is NO WAY to make a living off of what they pay us! Aloha--- PS please ignore all my many misspellings- I am having a real problem typing today!
