Clip to ScrapBook
I, too, am a kindergarten teacher and have retained children in the past. Furthermore, there are children I should have retained that I see struggling in first grade right now. I think it is very unfair to "bash" a teacher
and ask him/her why they aren't meeting the needs of these children. Newsflash for those against retention: Some children are simply too young and immature to go to first grade. I know this because I have taught first grade and it is a giant leap from kindergarten. No, I don't feel bad when I retain these children. As a matter of fact, I feel relieved that they have that second chance
to grow up and actually learn. Furthermore, it breaks my heart to see a child that feels out of place because he/she is struggling so in first grade.
