my thoughts
By another teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
I guess it is true that our experiences with teaching and interacting with students, parents, administrators, teachers, and others contribute to how we choose to vent--some of us are more vocal than others, some of us more
quiet. Some of us our "thick-skinned" and let things roll off our backs, and some of us are offended by certain types of comments. Yes, it is true that we do need to be careful and act in a respectful, "professional" manner, but, as many others have said, we are human--social interaction, whether positive or negative, is inherent to our emotional well-being. I guess when the conversations
turn unpleasant, we can choose to stay and say something to turn the direction of the comments around into something more pleasant, we can say nothing and ignore what is happening around us, or we can leave the room. The choice is an individual's choice--we cannot impose our morals/beliefs/virtues on others, but we can take a stand for what we believe to be proper "teacher behavior" by interacting in the way we feel is most appropriate. We are, after all, individuals--imagine if we all agreed on exactly the same thing??? So, choose to do what you believe is correct for yourself. We will always have contradictory situations in our teaching careers--these experiences will all make us stronger teachers.
