Denise, I too use the 65 book. I have tried an array of things with this program. One that I liked that seems to work is to assign 5 lessons a week. That way the kids can go at their own pace. I would offer mini-lessons| throughout the week on each lesson, attendance was optional. They would turn in their 5 lessons to me as they finished. If it was early, I would then assign them supplemental math activities out of our Silver-Burdett book. Or, would allow them to come up with more hands on math activities that they could complete in the remain time. I felt that this gave my high kids extra time to do | | more "advanced" things, my lower kiddos had time to work individually with me, and the "average" kiddos were write on target. However, as the lessons became harder, I did stop for a while and do more whole group lessons. I realized that the more people I had in a mini-lesson session, the more the whole class needed to be either refreshed or taught. They were also responsible for keeping up and checking their assignments. If they made below a 70 then they were required to come to the mini-lesson and had to redo that work.I hope that some of this is making sense. We also had a math enrichment program that my gifted students would attend, if they pretested out of the material in class for the week. Let me know if I can be of more help.
