I have taught third grade for 13 years. I also taught grades 4and 5 for eight years. I agree that one big difference you will see is in the level of independence. My advice to you is to remember that at the first of the year they are still "little people third-graders" and by the end of the year they should be "big-people third-graders". My biggest problem with third grade is parents. Most kids have all "a's" up to third grade and parents get upset when they start seeing "b's" and 'c's". I send a letter to parents at the beginning of the year about third grade. It is a transitional year. You'll love it and you'll do great!
