Dear pmj,

If I didn't know better, I would think you were talking about my classroom with all the things you mentioned to teach. That IS the way I teach. I have harley davidson motorcycle books for reading. When we did
our fifties celebration, we researched old and new cars.Compared and contrast with venn diagram. We did problems with the costs of the cars and the amount of money it would cost for gas. Measured rootbeer floats, learned means of central tendency by having a hulahoop contest.
I chart their favorite songs and we put them on the karoake machine. We pull out language arts out of the song

lyrics. We study about sports figures. I make up my thematic units with thier interests in mind.

I always set up library tables with the unit of study we are doing. I load my car down with examples of things to go along with my unit.(I even took in a 6 foot set of texas longhorns. We do cooking things and use the recipe for math and writing lesson. (they love the cooking because they love to eat) We always do models of things that go along with our units. We studied western expansion and did covered wagons and the trails.
We are getting ready to do a documentary of our school. My boys will interview, and video. We do a lot of Hands on things.

I usually stay until 6:oo at night getting things of their interest ready.The other teachers shake their heads because I work so hard doing things they will like. The are just ADHD, and I don't think anything will ever help. Thanks PMJ for your input.
