Distracted Students Strategy
By Mary

Clip to ScrapBook
I have four kitchen digital timers in my classroom. When kids are having trouble getting their work done, I give them a timer and ask them to set the timer for the number of minutes it will take them to finish something. They then set the timer. It really works and I have never had a kid set the timer for too many minutes.

I have also used these timers successfully with kids who have behavior problems. When I see that a problem is starting, I set the timer for one or two minutes for them to stop the inappropriate behavior. If their behavior is not appropriate after the timer goes off, then there is a consequence. This strategy also works VERY well.
