This is my second year teaching third grade, but last year I worked with a great mentor who gave me my discipline plan. I have a yellow sunshine chart in my room, with one clothespin per student on it. The pins have the| students numbers on them. Each day they start on the sunshine, which means they are a super citizen. If they break a rule, they are asked to move their clip. Just beneath the sunshine there are three levels that they can move down to. The first time they go to red, which is a warning, then green-lose recess, finally orange, a visit to the principal. They have to physically get up and | | move their clip in front of the class which usually solves the problem. On each of their desks they have star charts that correspond with the sunshine chart. At the end of the day they color their star whatever color their clip was on. If they have all yellow stars after a week, they get some free time. Also, these stars go home each Friday for a parent signature. This way the parents have a weekly notice of their childs behavior. If they see anything other than yellow, they know their child broke a rule. This is for individual accountability, I also do table points where the winning table gets a piece of candy at the end of the week.
