Hi Jules, I have been on 2 districts sub lists before and I plan to be on 3 this next school year. I haven't had problems before but I don't know what to expect this time. The district I am subbing in is having problems with budget. They are planning to cut all the nurses from the district except 1 or 2 that will float between schools. The middle schools will be going back to a traditional year calendar instead of a year round one. The district is talking about doing away with Assistant Principals (I imagine only at the elementary level). So jobs are going to be tight. Right now it seems to be slow all over. Not just here in southern Calif. So, the best advice I can give you is to go for it! You can always stop subbing in one district. But think twice. Here in Calif. jobs are very competitive -I live in an area where there are three Universities within 50 miles of me that have ex
cellent teacher prep programs. Also, in my area if you don't have a CLAD or BCLAD certificate (this allows you to teach non english speaking children) districts won't even consider you for a job. I think you should try it out - the more exposure you have to different schools and teachers the better your chances are of getting a full time permanent job if that is what you want. Hope this helps. Jane
