    Go for it!

I've only been subbing for a year so maybe not the best person to ask but here's my opinion. I am an ex-elementary education teacher who retired after 10 years of full time teaching with my own classroom because I wanted to stay home with my children. My kids are now 4th and 6th grade and so I began subbing in August to get my feet back in the water. Although I LOVE teaching, I remember the great amount of outside time it requires, not to mention the stress of state and district reports, mandates, parent pressures, etc. I am perfectly happy doing what I am doing. I have both an undergraduate degree in education as well as a masters, so I feel as though I am still using my education and talent without having all of the stress and time restraints attached. My priority is still my family and children, and I find by subbing, I can still be the mother and wife I want to be without sacrificing them to a career. I love doing my job, walking out at 4:00 and coming home to not worry about tomorrow. So can I do this as a career? Right now it is perfect. When the time comes that that is not the case and I feel I want or need more...Hey, the opportunity to go back to full time teaching is always there. Go with your heart. You'll know what is right for you. Don't listen to what other people have to say about it. Good luck!
