Team teaching with three teachers
By Reane

Clip to ScrapBook
Our school has a set language arts program which takes a big block of time. So teaming isn't an possiblity. But, I had in math a wide range of abilities in one room. So before Chirstmas, I went to other 3rd grade teachers
and proposed we split the students into groups high, medium and lower. Two others were interested. We all assessed the kids on the same meassure, and combined with their ability on times tables, and teacher opinion we made groups. Our goal was to have the lower group be the smallest, and to meet the needs of all the kids. We switch for one hour right before lunch. We, the teachers, students,
and parents, all love it. I happen to have the high group, but my students who come back from the other rooms are real excited, too. Believe me I hear all about it on the way to lunch. The groups are fluid and we moved kids as needed. We all follow the standards and flow chart but lower groups do way more hands on and movement, the higher moves quickly and more extensions. As teachers we get a part of everyday with different students. It's a nice break. We report frequently to the other teachers, and meet, pass on materials, ideas, and give data for report cards. It works out well for us, and we hope to continue it in the future.
