April
By Kelly

Clip to ScrapBook
I just did a bulletin board for April. We brainstormed words that have to do with Spring. Then I modeled an acrostic poem for them. They then wrote their own acrostic poems on either Spring, Animals, Colors, Flowers, Sounds
etc... They came out cute.

We also did shared readings on Spring poems. I cut out flowers and they glued all different colored petals around the center. We pasted the poems inside the flower and titled it "A Garden of Poetry".

You can also discuss different types of genres (Humor, Biography, Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry). Assign a group of students to read literature
under each genre. Make a big umbrella for the middle and smaller umbrellas for each genre. Cut out raindrops and paste students' summaries of their books that they read inside the raindrops. (Label each umbrella with each genre and have the raindrops with kids' summaries under them. This idea was in Mailbox. (I started it, but took too long, so decided to do the acrostic poems.)
