How to use oil pastels to decorate your class! By Tiffany

I took a class at conference on using oil pastels to decorate my class and have been hooked ever since. Draw, copy, or trace your pictures on a sheet of either tag board or construction paper. Go over any lines with a sharpie| to prevent spreading. Once you've done that here comes the fun... You rub the oil pastel onto the paper. Don't add the oil pastels all over just along the edges, you will be working the color in. Once you have rubbed(using the top of the pastel) you will take a piece of the paper towel and dab a LITTLE of the vaseline onto the paper towel and rub in the color to shade whatever | | you just colored with the pastel. If your picture looks greasy you are using to much vaseline. Using and overhead projector works great and will allow you to create just about any size picture. You can mix and blend different colors, but start with the light colors first. The best part is that oil pastels are very forgiving...if you mess up, you can rub out most of the color and start again. Q-tips work well for small areas, and you can buy any brand pastels as long as they are oil pastels. If you are going to laminate your work and you used posterboard use the dull side. The other side will smear in a laminator. Once you get started you will see just how easy it is to do. I think these are all the tips I received when I first learned! Most of all have fun! If you give it a try let me know how it turns out. Tiffany
