I love this unit! These are my two favorite things to do:
1. Order live caterpillars from www.insectlore.com and watch them turn into a chrysalis and then butterflies!
2. If you have an older buddy class (we call ours book buddies), the students can make caterpillars with craft sticks, pipe cleaners, and pom-poms. We hang them up and then when our caterpillars turn into "cocoons" we secretly take the pom-pom caterpillars down and put a bag up (made to look like a cocoon). Meanwhile, the book buddy class secretly makes butterflies with the pom-pom caterpillars. As our butterflies come, we slowly let our pom-pom butterflies return. The kids LOVE it.
