Beginner's Night
By Patti

Clip to ScrapBook
At our school, it's called Beginner's Night. We usually start with a 20 - 25 minute meeting for new parents just to fill them in on what's expected of their child re: Kindergarten readiness and school work. We usually hand out a packet for each child containing a school system pamphlet, a readiness brochure, a copy of the K curriculum, a sample schedule, etc. Following this meeting, the rising K's are invited to our classrooms to "visit." We usually open up our center areas for free play - I.e. playdough at tables, blocks, letter writing, etc. so the kids have something to do and parents are free to ask questions of teachers and walk around and look at current student work samples. It's usually a very fun and informative evening. 'Hope this helps.
