Reasons for teaching cursive
By Jennifer

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi! I am a first year teacher (4th grade) who also struggled with the rational of teaching cursive in a society moving towards the use of technology making teaching cursive seem obsolete.

These are the reasons that I have found for teaching cursive:

1. Some dyslexic students can write easier using cursive because they do not have to pick their pencils up off paper as often.

2. Cursive is faster than printing so when students get to high school or college they can take notes more efficiently.

3. Students will be able to read handwritten notes from their grandparents or other older people who still write in cursive!

These are just some of the reasons that I have uncovered this year. Hope this helps.
