Lynne: I don't know where you live, but there is a huge teacher shortage in the South. I'm in Mississippi, and most of the counties in this state are classified as "critical need" areas. This means that the need is so| great that people with degress in something other than education can qualify to teach by the Alternate Certification route. Of course, you won't make a whole lot in Mississippi. The base pay for a first year teacher with a Bachelors degree in this state is a little over $25,000. Each school district kicks in a little more, but not very much. That's the biggest reason why most of Mississippi | | is "critical need". Anyway, there are other states in the South and lots of teaching jobs waiting to be filled. Come on down, we'd love to have you!
