Math
By Elaine

Clip to ScrapBook
CC,
I am an avid supporter and defender of TERC Investigations, and even though I know of Everyday Math, I have not used it. They are both standards-based curricula which means they have been carefully researched, written,
and field tested to align with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards. I feel very strongly that the methods used by Investigations help students develop the strongest possible conceptual base on which to build higher math.

Having said all that, I'd like to say that what I know first-hand about Saxon Math is that it is pretty much the opposite of Everyday Math

and Investigations. What you have to decide is whether or not you'd feel comfortable making a switch to something so very different. If the school you would be going to has already been using these curric. then there would be teachers there to support you in this change.

Here's how I found information online about Investigations. I used a search engine -- maybe Yahoo.com -- and typed in TERC Investigations. The search results lead me straight to Scott Foresman's web site which is the publisher of Investigations.

Good luck in whichever decision you make. Certainly, everyone has a right to his or her own opinion. Children are a diverse lot and so are teachers! Keep us posted on how everything is going for you.

Elaine
