I don't use A.R. but my grandchildren attend school in a district that use it extensively. I don't know how strict your school is about students reading only those books from the A.R. lists, but I'll tell what my granddaughter's teacher did. She allowed students to choose (with her approval) books that were not on the A.R. list once they'd exhausted all the books that were appropriate for their levels/needs. I believe she got permission from her principal to do this, but I don't know how she handled the testing. If you only have a few students that are affected, it just might work even if you have to write your own tests (assuming you limit the choices to books you've read). Elaine
