art plans/reading integration

Clip to ScrapBook
To make all of this work useful to you in the future, could you integrate a social studies theme such as the Revolutionary War and study the paintings of famous patriots and president's portraits such as Paul Revere, George
Wahsington etc.. (many of them are on display at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the National Gallery in Washington, D.C..Additionally, Paul Revere is attributed to a famous etching of the Boston Massacre. Many other etchings were done to depict famous battles of this period- maybe you could do a lesson on that. Also, scrimshaw sdone duing the whaleing period of this time, but
particularly of the 1800's which also is a time period for ploynesian art brought back by the whalers- the New Bedofrd Whaling Museum and Nantucket WHaleing Museums are tremendous sources. Iam trying to pull together an author study for this period and to teach reading/soc. studies and I had planne to use prints form these sources to support the lessons- maybe you could too and use it when you get a teaching job! If pioneers are your passion, early twentieth century American lanscapes and cowboy paintings could be used and tied into literature. I hope some of this is of help- Good luck!
