Try not to focus on politics By Alice

I am a first year teacher too. I try so hard not to focus on the politics. It's amazing the games that people play with each other and the nuances of personality that you are expected to learn the first day. I have a group| of students that the principal admitted to me was "active". Sometimes I come home thinking I can't go back the next day and deal with one more angry, hyper, stealing, loud child, but I'll be there next year. I started off about 4 years ago and took on some long term substitute positions. I decided I wasn't sure I had chosen the right profession and took 2 years to flounder in a seriously | | underpaid clerical position in the counseling center at a community college. I tried to get promoted into other positions, but was going nowhere. I finally made the realization that I didn't waste all that time in college and came back to teaching. This year has been hard, but I'm hoping that what everyone says is true: The first year is the hardest! I hope you hang in there...I think teaching is a rewarding job! P.S. Don't let the parents bring your spirits down. I have learned that most parents that criticize have been doing it since their child started school. No teacher (new or veteran) is ever good enough for them. Let it go in one ear and out the other.
