A few we have used this year:

1. Riddle of Penncroft Farm (Revolutionary War). It is long and has a lot of historical vocabulary, so if you have a low group, it might not be the best choice. I used it with my class successfully,
once I had presented the Revolutionary War.

2. House of Dies Drear (Civil War). This is a good book for your class! My students enjoyed it very much!

3. Sarah Plain and Tall (this is sort of like Little House on the Prairie. The kids seemed to like this one, too.

4. Gratefully Yours (early 1900's). The child is an orphan who goes to live with a family in rural Nebraska

after being raised in New York City. My kids liked this one. We even made a diary on it with an illustrated cover.

If I can think of any others, I will add them later.
